Should Corporations have the same rights as citizens?

The three branch of government
The three branch of government

We need more checks and balances not corporate control.

We live under a political system where power is divided between True Power, Apparent Power & Reactive Power. These three forms of powers can be called the power triangle. Under such system anyone who said to have had apparent power must have demonstrated the ability to have caused the public to react. These folks usually hold some sort of leadership position in our society.

These people are: some members of the legislative branch, the judicial and executive branch of our government. The public depends on these distinguish gentlemen to carry out their demands.

However, these gentlemen are sometimes influenced by True Power (Big Corporate) which can attract these authorities to disregard the interest of the public for personal endeavor. We the people hold the legislative branch of our government responsible for any result that intercepts public demands for they're the branch liable for government accountability.

True Power is defined as corporate influence; those corporations that possess (TP) are known to have exercised their power through the process of lobbying. They are considered Tue Power mainly because of their large capital flow which can attract political influence. Due to their large capital flow, they can draw a great amount of influence, and depending on the amount of capital they have invested within the field of society, dictate the strength of their Power.

Although corporations are the main contributors to our economic survival, according to the constitution their interest should not come before that of the public. But nonetheless they do play an important role in our society because without businesses government would have no one to govern, unless of-crouse it was a socialist state. But since it is not, we live in a country where a large proportion of the population work for corporations. Therefore, corporations, small and medium size businesses are the life source (power) that keeps society alive and functional.

Since a government consist of a body of people as a society it is always refreshing to remember that the differences that exist between public government and the organization is very slim. The corporation consist of a body of people where these members ought to follow policies, and regulate rules of conduct to better assist the public customers that the members of the organization have been paid to serve. That system of organizing makes any sort of legal organization or corporation a form of government functioning outside the policies of public government, but not all their policies are mutually exclusive, some are rather very familiar.

In that respect, almost every individual, self employ or not is depend on some form of government to conduct their every day activities. It’s a network of governmental procedures sharing the same public government regulations in different industries, where others are more regulated. And every one of them depend on a higher level of government for support.

However, the Public Government is there to protect corporate interest to a certain extent, because without a growing economy, we the public will meet catastrophic circumstances. Thus, it is undoubtedly important for Apparent Power (AP) which are members of the three branches of our government, among which includes specifically, congressmen and the president to act on behalf of public interest while negotiating with True Power – The Corporations for better prospects.

On that note within that negotiation the public voice should not be “foreign” in foreign policy, but instead a voice that remind government officials that the corporate interest must also benefit the public interest, and that without such union the magnetic field of Reactive Power (we the people) can polarized congressional districts to behave respectfully as a mean to make our voices heard.

Although it is understood by "we the people" that the interest of corporations must be protected so that our economy can continue to prosper, it should not be in our leader's interest to give preference to corporation’s rights before our citizens. One of our most important concerns is that it isn't in our interest to have corporations select for us our next president.

We the people do not want corporations to have any types of influence over our presidential candidates. It should be the people's choice to select their president, so that the Electoral College can vote accordingly. This article was written before corporation became free citizens where they can now contribute to presidential campaign.

Since we do not operate under a direct democracy, it is the Electoral College who has the power to choose who the next president will be. However, we rather have it that way than to have corporation dictate to our electoral college who the next president should be. If corporation where to become an individual with all the civil rights as our citizens, it would be reasonable to think that corporation would choose a president that support their business practice rather than a president that the people want.

Since corporation’s pockets are deep, they influence would also reflect that depth. Corporation has too much power as it is to be considered an individual. If that were to be the case, it may become very difficult to regulate the business practice of some corporations.

In the history of America this has never been the case. On the contrary, our history has proven that corporations rights were more restricted due to lack of trust. Now, it seem as though the game has changed direction through this process of laissez-fair capitalist ideology. It is now all about profit, profit, profit - meanwhile our citizens are working harder and are becoming more in debt.

We the people can be refer to as Reactive Power, because when things do not go our way, we react. That's what we represent; we are the resistance that prevents Tue Power (TP) from completely influenced Apparent Power (AP). As a matter fact in order for members of our government to have had AP, we the people should continue to closely monitor Tue Power. If TP is the current which dissipate within the circuitry of our society, than we the people represent the resistant that drop the reactant force of the current from completely magnetizing Apparent Power (government officials).

Without the strengths of our Reactive Power (RP), the means of production for Tue Power (TP) is achieved through their forceful provocation. We must continue to pressure members of congress & the president so that the interest of corporation also benefits that of the public. For example, we the people can pressure Barack Obama NOT to support destructive policies such as the “Card Check” scheme that will subject workers to union intimidation and retaliation should they fail to say yes to join a union. The above mentioned from the legal defense foundation is the power of action, our ability to react as a society to protect our livelihood is now known as Reactive Power.

We are certain that those of us who are the guardian of Reactive Power (RP), those of us who are well-informed of our government way about must have heard that Corporation wants to claim their independence. By that we mean they want the same civil rights as a regular citizen. They want the right to free speech, the right to own property and the right to fund government officials elections.

Now, what we asked of the citizens of this country Reactive Power (RP) is that - do we really want our government to give those rights to corporation? This is where we play our parts as Reactive Power. We the people have what we’ve described as Reactive Power (RP), which mean together we have the power to resist TP's effort to gain total control of our government by protesting against their interest when it doesn’t coincide with ours.

I think we already lost that battle when they designed the electoral college to supersede public votes...

Hi! Loua

I know what you mean Loua but we do not operate under a direct democracy. At least it is up to the electoral college to decide. However, if corporations were to become individuals with all our rights, it's possible that they could have influence them easier. We know that corporations do influence some member of congress but it's a little harder under our current laws. WE want to keep it that way. The more Reactive Power our citizens have, the better off we are.

Hi! creativeone

thanks for your comments - we can only make a difference if we try by doubting ourselves, we're setting up for failure.

Hi Coolbreezing It has been awhile ! I am sad to say that Corporations and multinationals already run our Government . Because most of the campaign contributions and gifts a candidate recieves Is through the Corporations lobby

And nowadays a congressperson or Senator seems to put the welfare of Big Money over the Interest of a officials constituency .That I also think Is part of the anger that Is playing from the citizens that you see on the news these days . I hope the officials are getting nervous . I am tired of their arrogance ! But good stuff Coolbreezing !

The planning out of civilization cannot and should not be the perogative of corporations alone.I wrote a hub on the subject of corporations and their alledged rights as living persons which they can never be despite what the judicial system says.

Corporations were created by people.People were not created by corporations. At least not without perpetrating some kind of fraud on the people.

The civil rights of corporations are so strong that the entities are now the major political players in this country. Almost two-thirds of the money that puts people into federal office today comes from corporations. They effectively elect our government — certainly more effectively than the people do. And as a consequence, the corporations now have more power than the people of this country. That is why the burden of taxation in America has shifted so dramatically from corporations to individual citizens, along with causing a thousand other ills.

I don't feel free speech is drown out by corporations. The media is a corporation also and you wouldn't want the government controlling thier speech. The first admendment protects free speech who ever it is who is speaking, whether an individual or a group of individuals making up a corporation. The key here is that the "speech" is protected , the first admendment says nothing of the speaker

Sure the corporations should have the same rights as citizens. Since these days, citizens have their rights eroded by the corporations, I think it would be "fitting" that the corps should experience the same thing!
